From
Glennallen, Backcountry Connection will take you on a memorable
125 mile ride. You will travel through historic Copper Center and the
farming community of Kenny Lake. From Chitina, you will see the CopperRiver bridge, home of the famous Copper River Red Salmon, and see fishwheels
turning.
You
will follow the path of the Copper River & Northwestern Railway, nicknamed Can't Run and Never Will. You will stop at the Kuskulana River,
which is a 525' steel bridge built in 1911 that spans a 283 ft. gorge,
and at the Gilahina River railroad wooden trestle. The last 60 miles are
along a narrow gravel road, atop the old railway bed, into the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.
SCHEDULES
Backcountry Connection picks up at hotels, B & B's, campgrounds and RV parks in the Copper River Valley.
We also provide transportation to and from the Kennicott River footbridge.
Tickets are available for the shuttle between McCarthy & Kennicott.

The Backcountry Connection shuttle provides transportation
to the Kennicott River Footbridge where passengers disembark
and walk across the Footbridge. Transportation to McCarthy
& Kennicott is provided by other van services. We recommend
using the Wrangell Mountain Bus and our drivers have
schedules and tickets available.
